Help, please, with running COD:UO on windows 7 pro.

Hi, all.

I installed Windows 7 Pro on my iMac along with COD:UO, and all seems well, except I can't connect to the DUI main or scrim servers--I get an error message of

" COULD NOT LOAD WEAPONS FILE 'weapons/mp/ba10_turret_mp' "
before I even get to the downloads or splash screen, etc. on the server.  I haven't tried any other servers.

I don't know how to check for my game version on Windows (properties on the cod:uo mp file doesn't show any extra info)--I installed from the COD Warchest (GOTY edition).  So I don't know if I just don't have the latest version of the stock files, or if this is an issue of me not having the DUI mod.

Any suggestions?

I'll also need someone to translate into easy English for me how to get and manually install the needed PB files, as I suspect that will be the next problem I encounter after I finally am able to connect.  I know some of that has been discussed or is listed here, but just bear in mind that all the windows jargon is still very hard for me to follow, so that stuff previously didn't resonate with me.  Just need someone with patience to try with me.

If I can get the Windows COD:UO to run OK, as it should (I have an intel i7 processor), then I hope my game runs faster than the Mac version, and I'll be able to play those maps y'all like that I can't run on my Mac, so it's worth my trying this.  Meanwhile, I can still play on my Mac.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

PM or open response here is fine, or email to JBubba57 [at] gmail [dot] com.

I take it when you load your call of duty uo it says version 1.51 in the bottom right corner?
Do you have allow downloads turned on?
Inside of your call of duty folder you should have a file called version.inf (look in that file and see what ExtVersion is)

Next time I boot into Windows I will launch the game and see what the lower right corner says about the version.
Downloads are turned on.
Here is what the version.inf file says:

The easiest way to install Punkbuster is to get the install file
from Evenbalance.com and run it. You will not need to copy anything
over, it will do it completely for you.

Go to Evenbalance.com and click SUPPORT in the top of the screen,
the click on PB SERVICES FAQ.  In the seventh line in the first
paragraph, it says PBSVC can be downloaded from here, and the word
HERE is a hyperlink you click on and it will download pbsvc.exe to
your computer.

Run the file, it will select Install/Reinstall Punkbuster Service
automatically and then you click the NEXT button in the bottom of the install
window. You may have to agree to the EULA, then installation will
begin. You will have to click next a second time to complete the
installation. It will notify you of a sucessfully installation.

You do not need to do anything else, it should start the PnkBstrA
service every time the computer starts.  When the game starts,
PnkBstrA will start PnkBstrB. All the correct files will be in the
CoD pb directory. Once you join a PB managed server , the files will update.  You may have to exit and return once but Punkbuster will manage the files properly by itself. You absolutely do not need to copy files fron other people or from a previous install.  When it updates, the pb folder in CoD directorywill contain a file called PnkBstrK.

Each time you join the DUI server , watch the messages from the console. It will tell you Punkbuster starts successfully and what version you have, it will update to the ones that the server requires.

Also Red, check if the original and UO single player versions work and also check the multiplayer version of the original game,  Try non-punkbuster and PB servers both.

Did you open that file using Mac or windows? Because that is nothing like my version.inf file.
Are you opening it in notepad/word or some other txt viewer? or Are you double clicking the file?
You have to open it in a txt viewer of some sort so it doesn't try to run an inf file.
Below is what I have in my version.inf file: (note: 1.51b is a server side only patch not needed unless you run a server off your pc)

"
[Version Info]
ExtVersion=1.51b
IntVersion=2.3
Language=1
Branch=0.0
QA=4367

[Product Info]
Platform=PC
Product=Call of Duty: United Offensive

Sarge, I opened the file you said with notepad, and that's what I got.
Tonight I opened a file named just "version" and got what you got, in fact, I can no longer find a file called version.inf, that version file I opened tonight has no extension.  Strange.

So the ExtVersion=1.51 in your file? If so you have the correct patch update.

Yes, it's 1.51b.

And I did the punkbuster like Pist outlined, but it's not working.  On the DUI server, it's not doing the punkbuster b stuff, I'm getting kicked for PB everytime, and I don't have the pnkbstrK folder on my hard disk.  I'm going to look elsewhere here for the files to manually copy into my folders.

Red...you don't want to just start throwing files in a folder that you find.  Punkbuster, if properly installed will install all the files you need in the correct place.  None of have ever run Windows via Mac Bootcamp so there maybe some differences and we'll have to figure out the "right" solution not just doing stuff that may cause other problems.

First, make sure you have system restore on for the Windows drive and the set a restore point before each change you make.

Also, missing file extensions is the default in Windows 7.  You have to set the system to display the extensions.

As far as Punkbuster, rerun the install file and it there is a button to test services.  You can bring up a services.msc windows to check that the PnkBstrA is running before you start the game, and after the game starts, the PnkBstrB service will automatically start. If both don't start punkbuster will not function for sure.

I am more worried that your CoD install did not work correctly and make sure it is working the deal with the PB issues. Did you ever attempt playing a single player game either CoD1 or UO?

I have not yet tried single player COD 1 or uo, or other servers, with Bootcamp/Windows.

I did a whole bunch of Windows updates, nearly 200, and tried again.  I made sure downloads were on.  And I was able to connect and play, briefly, then got booted for PB.  I did all your instructions, PIST, and used the pbsvc application, but the PB B stuff would never happen.  So I used FS Sarge's post here and and downloaded and copied over his PB file to my folder, renaming the DVD-installed PB file (but not moving it out of the folder it had been installed in), and voila, everything works.

Now my Windows game issues deal with my display.  If I switch from the factory recommended resolution, then my maps all appear dark when I play, and the ingame brightness has no effect.  And I cannot change the brightness of my screen on Windows, anyway.  The monitor does not have external brightness and contrast controls; with the Mac, the brightness is changed via the MacOS control panel or an FKey, but I can't access those from Windows, and the Windows control panel for Display does not have brightness settings.  So I've gotta somehow figure that out.  Meanwhile, I can still play with my Mac, without problems, so I'll keep chipping away at this.

Thanks for all the help, and the files, Sarge.

Anytime,  glad it helped.

Are you running call of duty as admin? (this may help)

I take it you have the latest drivers installed for your card and Catalyst drivers from AMD/ATI's homepage?
Have you changed or allowed game display in your ATI driver? (you may be able to change that for game specific attributes.........sorry been at least a decade since I had an ATI card......NVidia fan)

I found this article that may help : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2572888

You don't need to run CoD as admin, but if it is day then you might want to right click on the CODUOMP.EXE file and click the compatibility tab and run under Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Actually I was receiving an error a couple weeks ago and couldn't even play the game.Running the game as admin fixed it, so sometimes it does work........ keep in mind he's running on a mac through bootcamp........

I used UniTuner1.1  a long time ago . It helps fix graphic issues on the fly I loved it.

Maybe it will work for you, you can look it up online or download it :
